This home office was suffering from a lack of focus, and the result was the author-owner, Maura, was doing her work elsewhere in the house!

First we moved everything not related to her work out of the room, and that included most of the closet's contents. (There's no photo of the closet, but it was transformed from a random catch-all, into filing and office supply storage, using cabinets and storage drawers that Maura already had elsewhere in the house). Next up was parting with a bookcase that wasn't working, and other items that didn't inspire Maura in her work -researching, writing and editing books. Then I suggested a redesign of the space - the entire desk was turned and we created a U-shaped work space, which is most efficient and usually works well for most people. Thanks to the redesign, we were able to bring in a chair for visitors and some other great antiques and prized possessions.

I'm proud to say the after pictures were taken many months after our work together -- Maura now has no trouble keeping track of her many projects and staying focused!
